Professional development

After earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Veterinary Science, Dr. Sheahan went on to graduate with a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine. She practiced one year in a mixed animal hospital in Northern California prior to moving to Bakersfield.  After practicing for a short time with a few of the Veterinary Hospitals in Bakersfield, she took a position at one of the nation's largest private referral Veterinary Hospitals in Southern California, pursuing her interest in surgery. Upon her return to Bakersfield, Dr Sheahan, along with her husband, Jack, established Rosedale Veterinary Hospital Inc in 1996 which quickly became one of the top Veterinary Hospitals in Bakersfield.

Dr Sheahan is Rosedale's first and only Board Certified Veterinarian with a Specialty in Canine and Feline Practice. There are less than 900 Veterinarians in the United States that are Board Certified by the ABVP and less than 500 who specialize in Canine and Feline Practice. Dr Sheahan is one of those select few with the skills and dedication to pursue a course of study and examination that led to her passing the stringent requirements of the ABVP in December 2015.

The number one procedure Dr Sheahan performs is Dentistry. Dr Sheahan handles the entire procedure from start to finish and we are the only Veterinary Hospital in Bakersfield that has a Digital Dental XRay setup. It is now considered Standard of Care when completing extractions to have a Dental XRay setup. We have had one since we first opened and have upgraded it several times over the years so that it will meet the stringent standards we set for ourselves when we first opened.

Dr Sheahan is a recipient of the Donald G Low-CVMA Fellowship. Hundreds of Veterinarians compete for this one of a kind opportunity. Since its inception in 2008, only 25 Veterinarians worldwide have been lucky enough to be chosen for this fellowship. Each year there are approximately 6 Fellows who are chosen. Dr Sheahan used this to pursue her interests in Small Animal Internal Medicine. Bakersfiled animal lovers are fortunate to have Dr Sheahan DVM DABVP as the only Bakersfield Veterinarian who has gone through the Fellowship program and pursued her interest in Small Animal Internal Medicine. In addition to continuing her dedication to her patients by staying abreast of the latest developments in Veterinary Medicine, this allowed Dr Sheahan to share her real-world experiences with the Veterinary Students at UC Davis, one of whom was her Daughter.

Personal

Dr. Sheahan has been happily married to Jack Sheahan for many years marrying him prior to her acceptence to Vet School. They met while attending Colorado State University. They have 3 Children, 1 who is also a Veterinarian, 1 who graduated with a degree in Aerospace Engineering and 1 who is works testing Aircraft Structures for faults. They share their life with 7 horses, 4 dogs (2 Great Danes, a Dachshund Mix and a Miniature Dachshund) and 5 cats. Dr. Sheahan competes with her Draft/Paint horse, Gabriel, in Combined Driving Events. She also scuba dives and skydives. And, as many of you know, she gets great enjoyment riding her Harley. But her greatest pleasure in the world is the time she gets to spend with her husband (Yes-her husband wrote this part :))
